7/8/2019 WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM EARNED THE TITLE – PAY SHOULD BE EQUAL BASED ON AMERICAN VALUESRead NowI am perhaps like most Americans and view soccer as the rest of the worlds sport, or perhaps as the rest of the world views our football. Soccer has certainly grown in popularity in the United States and on Saturdays around the country our parks are filled with youth soccer. The United States Women’s soccer team shows that this growth has not been limited to boys.
I tried to watch as many of the United States Women’s soccer matches in the World Cup as I could. I was impressed with the skills, the stamina, and the desire of not only the United States Women but of all the women throughout the world. They are good. The United States team was a team without a star in that they had no weaknesses. For some reason, and we know the reason, Rapinoe is heralded as the star. She is good but no better than Morgan or Heath. In the final Rapinoe was acclaimed as the goal scorer because she kicked the penalty kick, but it was the play of Morgan that drew the penalty. Perhaps the individual who works so hard, as did Morgan, to draw the penalty, they should take the penalty kick. How does a person overlook the play of Rose Lavelle? It seemed like she was very instrumental in every game, both on offense and defense. She just never seemed to get tired. She also had so many great outlet feeds to both Rapinoe and Heath. She easily could have been the most valuable, but she apparently is not outspoken, she just played great soccer. The entire defense played outstanding soccer. They shut down the offense of the other team and kept possession in control of the Americans. Their effort was absolutely outstanding. The team was truly outstanding, and the coaching seemed to be excellent. Congratulations. You all deserve it. So far as equal pay is concerned, who can argue with it. The women play the same length of games as the men. The women should receive the same per centage of pay as the men. They both bring in receipts to their individual organizations, mostly receipts from advertisers and promoters. It would seem fair that the same percentage is applied to the total receipts for player compensation. Rather than using a socialist formula as promoted by Karl Marx, the amount received is based on some contrived definition of need so all would be equal based on dollars, use the capitalist approach and apply the per cent to the amount produced. If the women produce $1000 and the men produce $500, twice as much would go to the women as opposed to the men. This would be how Americans define equal pay. The United States Women’s Soccer team is an American team, so American values should be applied.
