The further the Republicans have removed themselves from being the party that champions limited government, equal opportunity, protector of individual liberty, and rule of law, the more and more the United States has been transformed from liberty and freedom to conformity and tyranny. I understood that I was a Freedom Loving American, a conservative when I read and understood what Senator Barry Goldwater meant when he defined conservatism.
It appeared the Republican party had turned the corner with a product of the Goldwater era, Ronald Reagan. Unfortunately, Reagan surrendered the movement to a Republican Establishment “useful idiot” to the transformation movement, George W. H. Bush. It was not until Donald Trump that the Republican party once again embraced the ideas of limited government and individual liberty. Trump was not only attacked by the now communist Democrat party, but he was attacked by the Republican Establishment or self-proclaimed “useful idiots” to that communist movement. These “useful idiots” agreed with the direction the Democrats or Communists were taking the country, they just thought the transformation was too fast. We now see the Republican party moving in lockstep with the after Reagan Republican establishment movement of George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain, Mitt Romney, Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, and Ronna McDaniel. So far the Republican party has placed McConnell and McCarthy in leadership. We will learn soon about McDaniel. We will also see soon if in fact McCarthy will honor his commitments to the few conservatives left in the Republican party. Based on past performances, this is only a wishful thought and McCarthy will once again become the old McCarthy, the product of Boehner, Ryan, and McConnell. Our founders understood that in order for the United States to be a nation that honored our Declaration of Independence we must be a Republic and the power of the government must be limited while the liberties of the people, those liberties endowed on each individual by God, could never be abridged or infringed. This is the essence of conservatism. This is who Barry Goldwater was. This is what Barry Goldwater said was essential for freedom and liberty to reign supreme over the tyranny of government. Here are two excerpts from Goldwater’s acceptance speech for the presidential nomination in 1964. Goldwater’s summary on liberty and the government’s proper role: “We see, in private property and in economy based upon and fostering private property, the one way to make government a durable ally of the whole man, rather than his determined enemy. We see in the sanctity of private property the only durable foundation for constitutional government in a free society. And beyond that, we see, in cherished diversity of ways, diversity of thoughts, of motives and accomplishments. We do not seek to lead anyone’s life for him – we seek only to secure his rights and to guarantee him opportunity to strive, with government performing only those needed and constitutionally sanctioned tasks which cannot otherwise be performed.” Goldwater also drew a contrast explicitly to the communist, totalitarian vision and, implicitly, to big-government liberalism then in vogue, (that which the Democrat party and RINOS are promoting now) and recognized the tensions inherent in simultaneous pursuits of liberty and equality. He said: “Those who seek absolute power, even though they seek it to do what they regard as good are simply demanding the right to enforce their own version of heaven on earth. And let me remind you, they are the very ones who always create the most hellish tyrannies. Absolute power does corrupt, and those who seek it must be suspect and must be opposed. Their mistaken course stems from false notions of equality, ladies, and gentlemen. Equality, rightly understood, as our founding fathers understood it, leads to liberty and to the emancipation of creative differences. Wrongly understood, as it has been so tragically in our time, it leads first to conformity and then to despotism.” The Democrats have promised to transform the United States, which they are doing with the help of the Republican establishment. The transformation promised is a transformation from a republic to a democracy. This is dangerous to freedom. Lenin told us that democracy is indispensable to socialism and socialism is the gateway to communism. This is what Goldwater told us would happen unless we again followed the course set by our founder’s which is limited government with unlimited liberty. Limited government and unlimited liberty can only be accomplished under a republic. It will never exist under democracy. We must re-establish our republic where once again the Constitution is the Supreme Ruler of the Land and we strictly adhere to “Rule of Law.” If the Republican party is dedicated to individual liberty and freedom it must have leaders who are bold, honest, and do every thing in their power to limit government and promote individual liberty. Right now, the Republican leadership, by their actions and not their words, supports big government and limiting individual liberties. The real question is, “What about you?” Will you be willing to stand for true conservative values knowing that you will be ostracized and demonized? Will you be willing to stand for limited government and individual liberty even though you might be standing alone or standing with only a few of us? What you do determines who you really are.
