We have a habit of using slogans and what I refer to as Bumper Sticker and 30 second sound bite phrases today. These are generalities. When we are ‘Setting Brushfires of Freedom” it is critical we ask those who are supporting the transformation of the United States to this Democratic Socialist nation or whatever phrase they use to do research and use concrete examples in their research.
For instance, the left and many on the right refer to the United States as a democracy. First, we are not a democracy. We are a republic and to be a republic was a specific and conscious decision made by our founders. They understood that a democracy is in fact a dictatorship of the majority over the minority and they chose to protect rights for all, not just for those in power. They chose a Constitutional Republic because in a Constitutional Republic the rights per the constitution given to the people must be protected for the people and can not be taken from one, the few, or the many. We have an example of how a Democracy and Constitutional Republic differ. Like I said, in a Democracy the will of the majority prevails. Recently we saw Adam Schiff of the House Intelligence Committee operate as a true Democracy. The majority of the committee, by majority vote, denied to a defendant, President Trump, his constitutionally protected rights to due process of law; he was denied the right to be present in the proceedings, to question his accusers, and to have legal representation. If Schiff and the majority operated as required by a Constitutional Republic, they, the majority would not have been able to deny these rights to President Trump or any other defendant. It is for reasons such as this the left is so adamant that we abandoned our Constitutional Republic and adopt all aspects of Democracy. When “Setting Brushfires of Freedom” you can ask the other person, using a different example of course, if this is the way they would want to be treated assuming they were the defendant. Another example of differences in how the right and left differ is in how the China Flu has been approached. The left believes that all should adhere to the dictates of experts, technocrats, and bureaucrats, as opposed to being free to make their own decisions. The left believes that these experts, technocrats, and bureaucrats, with all the knowledge and information they have, are better able to run the lives of the individual than is the individual. This is a basic belief of a collectivist (Marxist, communist, socialist, progressive, Democrat, - all virtually the same). This is how communist countries are operated, both economically and socially. An example of how these differences occur in practice and not just in theory would be to compare New York to South Dakota in how they are handling the China Flu happening. In New York, with Gov. Cuomo and Mayor De Blasio, we have a true communist mentality. The state is controlling every aspect of people’s lives. The state and the city are economic and social disasters as the state is dictating a general policy for all areas and individuals. When mistakes are obvious, such as mandating that elderly people who have the virus be accepted into elderly care facilities where the most susceptible population resides, the officials lie and attempt to do a full scale cover-up of their obvious mistake, because in the communist mind the state can never be wrong. On the right hand, we have as an example Gov Noem who as a true believer in freedom and liberty. She gave the people of South Dakota all the information that was available and told them they are free and independent and as such they should run their own lives acting reasonably and responsibly. The result is a state flourishing both economically and socially and the China flu having a medical impact comparable to the flu. The most effective way of “Setting Brushfires of Freedom” would be to not use specifics but generalities in the above examples and phrase the statement in the form of a question. Your goal is to generate enough curiosity so when you suggest that you both do a “little” research on the question and then discuss your findings in a day or so. If a person is led to arrive at their own conclusion, the conclusion becomes a belief. It the person arrives at the same conclusion because they were told, it will be a conclusion to go along to get along and is fleeting at best.
