THE OPPRESSIVE OVERREACH OF GOVERNMENT

The differences between political beliefs through out history has been how much power should government have.  We have never seen a people rebel against governments that were limited in scope and power.  People have rebelled against governments, regardless of the form of government, when the people determined the government was controlling their lives and their interests far more than the people believed they should.
 
The American Revolution was a unique revolution.  A revolution like it had never taken place before 1776 and I believe a revolution like it has never taken place since.  What made the American Revolution so unique was that the revolution continued after the signing of the Treaty of Paris in September of 1783.  The American Revolution began as and continued as a revolution to limit the role of government on the lives of the citizen.  The American people ratified a truly unique document called the Constitution of the United States.  This document was unique because its purpose was to define the limits of government.  Patrick Henry said, “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government -- lest it come to dominate our lives and interests."

The Constitutional Convention was a debate between one side that believed that government must have more power and the other side that believed the government must have less power.  Both sides believed however that the natural rights of man, or the rights of freedom and liberty and those rights that protect freedom and liberty, are rights granted by the Creator and not by man nor government.  Because both sides understood that government overreach always ends in oppressive or tyrannical government, they were not only willing to compromise, but understood that compromise that protected the natural rights of man from they tyranny of government were essential to protect freedom and liberty for themselves and their posterity.
 
The debate on what role the government was to play did not end when the Constitution was ratified but continued and has continued to this very day.  There is one major difference.  That difference is that both sides no longer have the same goal.  Those who are referred to as “those on the right” continue to believe that the role of government should be limited in scope and that unlimited government will result in an oppressive and tyrannical government.  Those who are referred to as “those on the left” believe that all rights are the province of man or government, and that there should be no limit to the power of government.  They advocate that government has the right to dictate to any individual how that individual should live their life and what their thoughts are to be so long as those requirements are deemed to be in the best interest of the group or the collective.  These on the left believe that the rights, freedoms, and ambitions of the individual must always be subordinated to what government or “those on the left” deem to be in the best interest of all. 
 
These views held by “those on the left” are the reason Jefferson explained that an energetic government is always an oppressive government.  What Jefferson stated was because of his study of history where the fact that energetic government always become oppressive.  History since the time Jefferson stated this maxim continues to verify the truth of the statement.
 
There are many on the left, those such as Comrades Obama, Holder, Jarrett, Ellison, and Perez who clearly understand that what they advocate is the exact opposite of the beliefs of our founders.  These Comrades clearly understand that they are advocating that the United States be transformed into a collectivist (Marxist, communist, socialist, progressive) nation.  So many, however on the left are advocating for an energetic government because they believe the role of compassion and charity belongs to the government.  This idealist and foolish beliefs of these people are no different from many of those same people who supported tyrants in the past under the misconception that control of one is good for all. 
 
When you people advocate for government handouts such as welfare, food stamps, healthcare for all, and any and all other subsidies, you must understand that you are advocating for those who receive this assistance to become permanent serfs and slaves to an oppressive government.  These people will have surrendered their rights to freedom and liberty to the government in exchange for a government dole.  Historically the number of serfs and slaves continues to grow as others believe they are receiving help and assistance as they willingly abdicate their rights.  It is a slippery slope and those who advocate for these policies of enslavement are greasing that slope.  As you who believe you are advocating for compassion and charity continue to grease the slope, history proves that you too will shortly be deprived of your right to live your life and have your own thoughts.  The American Revolution was fought to take that right from government and give it back to the individual.  Please, do not surrender your natural rights to government.  The inevitable end is enslavement to an oppressive government.
