A goal of the left, at least since the days of Woodrow Wilson, is to obliterate the United States Constitution. The left has been telling us since at least the days of Woodrow Wilson that the United States is a Democracy. Of course, we are not. We are a Republic. The left does not want the United States Constitution or its protections of rights for all including those who are not on the left.
As written in Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, "[The President] shall have Power to Grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.” This is very straight language. The power of the president regarding Reprieves and Pardons is limited only to offenses against the United States and in cases of impeachment. Am I missing something? “President Trump’s decision to commute the sentence of top campaign advisor Roger Stone, who could directly implicate him in criminal misconduct, is an act of staggering corruption," Pelosi said in a statement Saturday. She added, "Congress will take action to prevent this type of brazen wrongdoing. Legislation is needed to ensure that no President can pardon or commute the sentence of an individual who is engaged in a cover-up campaign to shield that President from criminal prosecution." Congress could pass any law they wanted, but constitutionally, the law to which Pelosi refers would be worthless, if we are to adhere to the Constitution and remain a Republic. The course of action available to Pelosi and the left would be a Constitutional amendment. This is the very reason the left wants the Constitution obliterated and why they want the United States to be a Democracy. The Constitution does not regard political parties or the wishes or desires of an immediate and impulsive reaction. Democracies do not have constitutions and the will of the majority prevails with no concern for such things as rule of law, limitations on government, or rights of individuals. Democracies are dictatorships of the majority over the minority that quickly evolve into dictatorships of the few over the many. This is the very reason the founders rejected a democracy for a Republic. They understood people like Pelosi and the left would at some time have power, and they feared them.
