The 1ST Amendment states that the government cannot abridge the freedom of speech. Abridge means to curtail or limit.
“For if Men are to be precluded from offering their Sentiments on a matter, which may involve the most serious and alarming consequences, that can invite the consideration of Mankind, reason is of no use to us; the freedom of Speech may be taken away, and, dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep, to the Slaughter.” George Washington “Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.” Benjamin Franklin “There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.” James Madison “Reason and free inquiry are the only effectual agents against error.” Thomas Jefferson OR “Why should freedom of speech and freedom of press be allowed? Why should a government which is doing what it believes to be right allow itself to be criticized? It would not allow opposition by lethal weapons. Ideas are much more fatal things than guns. Why should any man be allowed to buy a printing press and disseminate pernicious opinions calculated to embarrass the government?” Lenin “Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.” Stalin Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that DHS created a Disinformation Governance Board to combat online disinformation. "The goal is to bring the resources of [DHS] together to address this threat," he said, adding that the department is focused on the spread of disinformation in minority communities ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. SO Which do you want, the 1st Amendment, Washington, Franklin, Madison and Jefferson, or Lenin, Stalin, and Mayorkas?
