64 Americans went to fight with ISIS. What do we do with them now?
WHAT A FOOLISH QUESTION. That a question like this would even be asked shows how the dangers of political correctness have endangered our freedom and our Constitution. We are a nation that is supposed to adhere to “rule of law.” The correct question that should be asked is, “Did these Americans commit treason based on our law." The Law says that “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.” If there is reasonable cause to believe that Treason was committed, then the 64 should be indicted and tried by a jury of their peers. I believe that is the way a country operating under “rule of law” would proceed. If the jury finds that any or all of the 64 Americans were guilty of Treason, then they should be subject to the applicable penalty which is “Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.” The Court would have the legal authority to show leniency for any special situations. That is the way the law works when you adhere to “rule of law.” Was this question asked about Benedict Arnold? Would this question have been asked of people who would have left the United States to fight with the Germans against the United States in either World War I or World War II? We were at war with the British and with the Germans. We are at war with ISIS. ISIS has openly declared war on the United States. ISIS is our enemy as were the British and the Germans. Yes, the question is truly a foolish question, and just by asking the question, the author is questioning whether we are or are not a nation that adheres to “rule of law.” This is the real danger of political correctness.
