In a free society that follows the fundamentals of Individualism and not Collectivism, each individual makes choices and is responsible for the consequences of their choices. If I chose to break into a Target and steal the property of another, in the name of some manufactured justice, I am responsible for that action and not society. Those who would blame society for my actions are enablers and promoters of a lawless society.
In collectivism, it is some sort of group, rather than an individual who is at the center of all social, political, and economic concerns, and issues. Those who are proponents of this ideology say that the interests and claims of groups (it may even be a state) supersede those of individuals. Thus, a society being a group is considered to be superior to an individual. It is treated as some sort of super-organism over and above individuals. Collectivism believes in the subjugation of the individual to a group, which may be family, tribe, society, party, or a state. Individual has to sacrifice for the collective good of the people. The proponents of collectivism consider their stand to be superior to those of individualists as they are morally superior thinking of the collective good of the group or the society. The focus of all thinking in individualism is the individual. When talking of political ideologies, classical liberalism comes closest to this thinking as individual human being is taken as the central unit of all analysis. It is not that an individual is any different from the society. However, an individualist, even while remaining within the society thinks about his own personal interests. This doctrine believes that society is there, but it is ultimately made up of individuals who choose and act. The foundation of individualism lies in one’s moral right, to pursue one’s own happiness. However, it is not in contradiction with collectivism as it believes that it is necessary for individuals to preserve and defend institutions that have been made to protect one’s right to pursue happiness. For instance, in the recent happenings, we as individualists believe that the policeman in the Floyd incident is responsible for his actions and not the nations police. Likewise, we who are individualists would say that we should look at the actions of the individual’s on the Minneapolis City Council who have over the many years they have been in charge, done nothing to improve their department, understanding that this same policeman had numerous complaints against him and had a reputation for being overly aggressive. In an individualist atmosphere he would have been viewed as an individual policeman and held accountable. In a collectivist community he would be considered a part of a union and would have been protected as a part of the group and not as an individual. This same difference holds true in regard to racism. Racism exists in collectivist communities, those communities being promoted by the leftist factions, because they believe we should always view society as groups, color of skin, religious affiliation, sex, financial status, educational status, and on and on. They advocate that actions should be based on the group. Individualists believe that factors such as color of skin, religious affiliation, sex, and on and on are not to define the individual, but only the content of their character as Martin Luther King, Jr. stressed. The individualist would say that the person running from a store with a stolen television is responsible for that action. The Individualist would say that the policeman kneeling on the neck of another individual is responsible for the consequences of that action. The individualist also stresses that it is the choice of the individual to voice their opinion and that speech is not to be outlawed. That is not to say that the speech cannot be judged by others and conclusions drawn. For instance, I as an individual have every right to not attend or watch sports because I judge the speech and actions of those being paid to play as collectivist speech as well as “stupid” speech. The same would hold true for those who place their importance on memorizing lines or using a God given talent to them such as singing. Collectivism, that ideology being promoted, no demanded by the left, is a very stupefying ideology. It demands that all conform to one way of thinking and acting. It demonizes, banishes, and eliminates any who would challenge its proclamations. It enslaves the minds and the actions of the people. It is the way of the Marxist, communist, socialist, progressive, and yes Democrat, because they are all virtually the same. Individualism is a much more difficult ideology to be maintained. Many despise individualism because it demands that each individual be responsible for their actions. If you commit a crime, you are tried on the basis of your actions and not on the basis of a group to which claim allegiance. If you make proclamations about issues, you are responsible for those proclamations and the results of those proclamations, At the same time you are encouraged to think for yourself and proclaim based on your thoughts and not the thoughts or demands of others. Individualism is a much more difficult society to maintain because it requires individuals to be responsible. It also requires individuals who do not conform and are willing to stand alone for principle. It demands that we view each individual as just that an individual and not relegate them to some preconceived notion demanded by the dictates of a group elite. When society demands that to utter the phrase “Black Lives Matter” is a freeing and non-racist phrase, and must be the mantra of all, we have sunk to the pits of collectivism, which is the same as sinking to the pits of Hell. The phrase “Black Lives Matter” is the epitome of racism. The Black Lives Matter movement is the height of collectivism. I, as an individual have the right to make these proclamations, and must make these proclamations because they are the truth, and are liberating to all individuals. That is the epitome of Individualism, which is the opposite of racism, and is the height of freedom and liberty.
