WHO DOES BERNIE SANDERS ADMIRE

We can learn a great deal about the values of an individual by learning who they admire.  For instance, Thomas Jefferson greatly admired John Locke.  John Locke believed that natural rights such as life, liberty, and property were given to man by the Creator and thus the only role government would play when it came to natural rights would be to protect those rights.  Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.  Amongst them, the right to life, to liberty, and to the pursuit of happiness. 
 
Thomas Jefferson was also a fierce advocate for a limited government.  Jefferson also gave us the proper role of government when he said, “The government is best which governs the least.”  Jefferson understood that those in government have a natural propensity to dictate to others how they are to live their lives and how they are to think.
 
Bernie Sanders is just the opposite of Jefferson.  Sanders believes that it is government who should control natural rights and govern the most, because all people must be told how they are to live their lives and how they are to think.  We know this to be true because those who practice that doctrine are those Sanders admires. 
 
Bernie Sanders said, “It’s funny sometimes American journalists talk about how bad a country is because people are lining up for food. That’s a good thing,” when talking about bread lines in the Soviet Union.
 
Bernie Sanders take on Cuba:  "For better or for worse, the Cuban revolution is a very profound and very deep revolution. Much deeper than I had understood," Sanders wrote. "More interesting than their providing their people with free health care, free education, free housing ... is that they are in fact creating a very different value system than the one we are familiar with."
 
Bernie Sanders endorsed an article that claimed, "These days, the American dream is more apt to be realized in South America, in places such as Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, where incomes are actually more equal today than they are in the land of Horatio Alger. Who's the banana republic now?"
 
Now we see Bernie Sanders view on Communist China. “But what we have to say about China, in fairness to China and its leadership, is, if I’m not mistaken, they have made more progress in addressing extreme poverty than any country in the history of civilization, OK?” he said. “So, they’ve done a lot of things for their people.”
 
Yes, you can learn much about the values of an individual when you understand who their hero’s are.
