Samuel Adams told the American Colonists, “It is high time the people of this country explicitly declare if they will be free, or they will be slaves.” That is the choice facing Americans once again. Will we remain free to make choices for ourselves, to think for ourselves, or will we succumb to the demands of the American left and become slaves of the state who dictates to each of us what choices we will make and how we will think. Each person must decide free or slave There is no neutral ground. The idea you do not have to choose, free or slave, is in fact a choice to become a slave to a totalitarian government.
The last several generations of Americans have not been taught that each generation of Americans must make this choice. The colonists were faced with this choice, and they chose freedom. The choice they faced was no different from the choice we face, nor is it different from the choice people have had to make from the beginning of time. That choice is will we be a nation adhering to individualism or collectivism. The difference between collectivism and individualism is in what each ideology considers as important: the individual or the group. In collectivism, it is some sort of group rather than an individual who is at the center of all social, political, and economic concerns, and issues. Those who are proponents of this ideology say that the interests and claims of groups (it may even be a state) supersede those of individuals. Collectivism believes in the subjugation of the individual to a group. The individual has to give up their rights for the collective good of the people. The proponents of collectivism consider their stand to be superior to those of individualists as they are morally superior thinking of the collective good of the group or the society. Collectivism is the essence of Marxism, communism, socialism, progressive thinking, which is the heart of the American left which is comprised of Democrats and their enforcers and advocates like BLM, ANTIFA, Democrat Socialists, and RINO’s. What is Individualism? The focus of all thinking in individualism is the individual. When talking of political ideologies, classical liberalism, this is the basis of our Constitutional Republic, comes closest to this thinking as the individual human being is taken as the central unit. It is not that an individual is any different from the society. However, an individualist, even while remaining within the society makes their own personal choices. This doctrine believes that society is there, but it is ultimately made up of individuals who choose and act. The foundation of individualism lies in one’s moral right, to pursue one’s own happiness. Individualists do believe that it is necessary for individuals to preserve and defend institutions that have been made to protect one’s right to pursue happiness. Racism is a good example of collectivism where the good or bad an individual of a particular group has done is attributed to the whole group. Think that there is a family who considers their race to be superior to their neighbors who are of a different race. This family forbids their children to be friendly with the neighbors. However, one child refuses to accept that their neighbors are inferior because of their skin color, and he goes on to be friendly with the neighbors. This is an example of individualism. The individual within the group makes their own decisions. Free societies have always chosen individualism. Totalitarian societies have always come about because of collectivism. This is the choice Samuel Adams told the colonists they must make, free or slave. This is the choice our nation must make today, individualist or collectivist. There is no neutral position. Those who believe they can ride the fence are in fact choosing collectivism, which is totalitarianism, which is slavery. Tomorrow I will address what those who choose individualism, which is freedom, must do if we are to remain an individualist nation, a free people.
