The question all people have to ask themselves is, “What role do I want my government to play, sovereign or servant.” A sovereign is a supreme ruler possessing ultimate power. A servant is one who performs duties for others.
Remember, if you say you want the government to be the sovereign, you are saying that you acknowledge that you must obey the rules and orders of the sovereign, and if you do not you are subject to the consequences for that disobedience as determined by the sovereign. If you say you want the government to be the servant, you are saying that you are willing to accept the responsibility of being the sovereign, which means you commit to being interested, involved, and informed. Thomas Jefferson told us that the government will become the sovereign when the people are no longer an interested, involved, and informed people. James Madison told us, “If Men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary”. We have learned over the years, and have had reinforced by the happenings in the recent election, that people are not angels. People will lie, cheat, deceive, and connive, (angels never would) to retain and gain power over others. It is clear angels are not involved in any way, so people are left to govern people. This brings us back to the question, what role do we want government to play, that of sovereign or servant. Our founders said they wanted government to be the servant and they would assume the responsibilities of being the sovereign. The founding fathers went so far as to tell government that they had no power to control in any way the rights and liberties that are given to man by God such as life, liberty, property, and pursing ones happiness. They even named specific liberties over which government was to have no control that included religion, speech, assembly, and the right to petition the government, and said in the Ninth Amendment many more were included but were to numerous to list. Many other nations have accepted and or chosen to be servants to a sovereign government. They have told their government that the people in power have the right to say who can live, what people can say, think, or read, and who can own property and how people can provide for themselves and their families. In these nations the people comply when government tells them what income they can have, what health care they receive, what they will learn, what they can read, what news they can watch, how they will act in the case of a real or perceived threat, with whom they can congregate, if they can worship God, with how many people they can assemble, what they will or will not question, and the people accept that it is the government who tells them how they are to live their lives and how they are to think. This is the very question facing the people in the United States today, will we be the sovereign or will we accept the role of servant to a supreme government possessing ultimate power. If you say you want to be the servant and have the government tell you how to live and think, you need do nothing except to vote for Democrats in elections which will give them cover for their cheating, lying, deceiving, and conniving. If you say you want to be sovereign and have the government play its intended role of servant, you must become even more interested, more involved, and more informed. If you say you want to be sovereign, but still say that President Trump must accept the results of an election that was clearly fraught with fraud and manipulation, you are saying one thing but doing the opposite. Those who would cheat, lie, deceive, and connive do not curb their activities when not confronted but they are emboldened. This is what has happened over the years. Many who claim they want the government to be the servant have gone along to get along and have in fact emboldened those who want a sovereign government. If you say you want the people to be sovereign and the government to be servant, realize that we have reached the point of no return. We who believe government is best that governs least must stand firm and not accept defeat, or the hole we have already dug will be so deep, it will take generations to recapture the people’s rightful place as sovereign. We must choose now, sovereign or servant.
