NYT Essay Claims, ‘Broken Constitution’ Stands in Way of ‘Real’ Democracy
This is the very reason we have the Constitution of the United States, and that is to stand in the way or “Real” Democracy. In a Times essay, two Ivy League professors declared the “broken” and “famously undemocratic” U.S. Constitution “stands in the way” of “real” freedom and democracy, while issuing a call to “radically alter the basic rules of the game” by no longer requiring us to “justify our politics by the Constitution.” The essay, titled The Constitution Is Broken and Should Not Be Reclaimed, written by law professors Ryan D. Doerfler of Harvard and Samuel Moyn of Yale, claimed that when liberals “lose in the Supreme Court” they often blame justices for misreading the Constitution.” So, declared the duo: “Struggling over the Constitution has proved a dead end.” Translation: “Dissolve the Constitution and let us behave as radically as we choose to behave, justice be damned.” The two who wrote the essay must have been present when our Founders discussed whether or not the United States should be a republic or a democracy. The reasons the duo state why we should abolish the Constitution are the very reasons the Founders said we must have a constitution that protects us from democracy. A constitutional republic, ours specifically, limits the powers of government, it limits the powers of the majority and those in power. The Founders understood that “Real” Democracy is in fact a dictatorship. A Constitutional Republic, ours specifically, protects the liberties of the minority or those out of power from the whims of the majority. Our speech, which includes our thoughts, and our freedom to freely worship God, are under attack by the dictatorial left today. If not for the remnant of the Constitution that still exists, there would be even more political prisoners in the United States because we who would be prisoners would have voiced our thoughts that do not conform to the mob, and we would have prayed or quoted scripture in public, which the mob opposes. My latest book, “Republic or Democracy Does it Matter” will be in print soon and explains in detail the differences between a Constitutional Republic and “Real” Democracy. Get it, read it, and then decide which you prefer, the protection of the Constitution or the untethered whims and wishes of the left.
