DOES GOVERNMENT TAKE LIBERTY FROM THE PEOPLE OR DO PEOPLE SURRENDER LIBERTY

There has always been a faction of the population that will for many reasons believe they ae superior in intellect and wisdom and should run the lives of the lesser people who can only benefit from their intellect and wisdom. Barack Obama is one of them.  Obama told an audience in Europe, ordinary Americans are "too small-minded to govern their own affairs" and should "surrender their rights" to an "all-powerful sovereign."
 
We have seen these people through out the ages. In recent times we have seen people such as Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Castro, Chavez, and now Obama. They all not only hold the viewpoint that they are intellectually superior, but also that their control must be total and absolute.  
 
America was founded on the principle that the beliefs of Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Castro, Chavez, and Obama are incorrect. Our founders, truly wise people, believed that the individual was far wiser and more capable of running their own lives and the decisions they made for themselves would be superior to decisions made be an all-powerful ruler.
 
The as to why and how demagogues such as Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Castro, Chavez, and Obama desire to be all powerful and are willing to do anything to acquire such power has been documented.   In a sentence, they have a psychological disorder that makes them believe they are the greatest, most important person in the world.
 
The real question I have, is why do so many people accept their premise, especially when it becomes readily apparent all their decisions are for their glory and power and the people they claim they will keep safe or bring prosperity are being used for the sole purpose of the demagogue. We are facing that dilemma in many states and cities today. All powerful and all-knowing governors and mayors have taken the position of the demagogue, and many people have encouraged them.
 
This encouragement by the people has come despite study after study that proves the policies of the demagogues are not helpful, but hinder the control of the virus, and the rulings by the demagogue are totally irrational.  Is it rationale that an individual could go golfing by themselves but could only do it if they walked the course and did not use a cart????  Or that you can walk on a beach by yourself but could not sit down and enjoy the waves and solitude?????
 
I could go on and on and show absurd examples, but the point is not the absurdity of the orders, but why do people, Americans, accept these rulings that contradict every liberty granted to us by the United States Constitution. Perhaps it might have been based on fear at one time. Perhaps it could have been based on the concept of “herd mentality” that seems to have been adopted along with political correctness. Perhaps it is that many people do want to be freed from the responsibility of making their own decisions, living their own lives, and having their own thoughts.
 
I would welcome any and all honest observations as to why people welcome and encourage others to live their lives for them and to dictate to them what they can and cannot think. This for the most part would be a question for a Marxist/Progressive (Democrat) but certainly not exclusively. My question is sincere, so please only sincere answers. I would welcome understanding your reasoning.
