I ask that question realizing that some Democrats and RINOs are truly American but for some reason continue to identify otherwise. That would mean that most Democrats and RINOs are not American.
It is important that I define what I mean by American. America would be a person who agrees with the principles upon which our nation was founded and instituted a new type of government, a type that had never been instituted before, or frankly since. The other important part of this discussion is to ask if you have ever read and studied the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States including the reasons for them and why they were written as they were. If not, and this would be applicable to everybody, do so. What you will find in the Declaration of Independence is a call to have a government that understands it is the servant to a sovereign people. The government understands and respects that the rights of the people come from God and government is to never have any authority to limit those rights and liberties. The role of government is to be limited. We find this same theme in the United States Constitution. The Constitution is more specific about the rights and liberties of the people and extends them beyond life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. The founders were so concerned that government would attempt to take control of the lives and thoughts of the people and so they added the Bill of Rights where they became even more specific. An American believes that government is to never have any control over rights and liberties of the people. The founders understood that only government can enslave the people of a nation. They understood that the more power and authority government assumed, the less free were the people. Because of this the founders specifically enumerated the powers we the people would give to government with the stated intent of always having a limited government. The founders understood that every time a law was passed and signed by the executive, the less freedom the people had. Because of this the founders purposefully made it an involved and complicated process to pass a law. First, they were specific that only the legislative branch of government had the authority to make law. The executive and judicial branches were given no authority to make law. The founders further complicated the process by having to separate houses as a part of the legislative process. It was the intent that the legislative branch be the most powerful, the executive branch would be second, and the judicial branch would be the weakest. This was again based on the inherent fear of government every American has. We want the most powerful branch of government to be the branch over which we have the most control. The founders also were aware of the dangers of democracy. They specifically told us that democracy is indeed a dictatorship and they abhorred dictatorship as does every American. In a democracy, the majority or the people in power have the authority to eliminate individual rights and liberties for some or for all of the people. This is why we are a republic. In a republic, rights and liberties are protected for every individual. Americans believe in individual liberties and rights that are given to us by God and only protected by government. Americans believe in limited government. Americans believe fewer laws and less government is always better government. Americans do not believe in dictatorship and thus reject democracy and embrace republic. Americans believe that self-responsibility is always better for all than is government reliance. Which are you, a Democrat, a RINO, or an American?
