The above number is the current National Debt. It is actually higher because this was the number as of the other day. It is on its way to $24 trillion. Gross National Product for 2018 rose to a level of $20.50 trillion. As of the end of 2018, Greece had a national debt that was 181% of its GNP, Italy was 132%, and Cyprus was 102%. The United States is 117%.
Today we hear cries from the Marxist/Progressives (Democrats) to provide universal health care, eliminate all student debt, provide free college tuition for all, and on and on. The congress is in the middle of passing budget bills so the government can keep operating. In the discussion, nobody is mentioning that we are in a bankrupt state. During the current presidential campaign, we will be hearing from the Marxist/Progressives (Democrats) how much the government should give away. They will be telling us that we can pay for their give away programs by taxing the rich. What history proves is that the higher the tax rates the lower are the government receipts and the lower the tax rates the higher are the government receipts. As has so often been said, the United States, along with Greece, Italy, Cyprus, and so many others, does not have a receipt problem, we have a spending problem. President Trump proposed a zero-based budgeting program with a 5% decrease spending cut as its goal. Rand Paul recently called for an across the board cut of 2%. In both situations, they who called for the make sense and responsible budgeting proposals were roundly demonized by the Marxist/Progressives and Republican establishment. In the plan to make America great again, President Trump, along with Rand Paul and other Freedom Loving Americans, must make the greatest threat to our national security, our debt, a target and right the ship. This means we will need a large majority in both the house and the senate. Remember, the swamp runs deep and deficit spending is a major part of the swamps ideology.
